Walking For Weight Loss

Whilst it is a gentler and more easily accessible activity to do, you mustn’t underestimate the benefits that you get from doing it regularly, not only in terms of losing weight, but also improving your health, posture and energy levels.
However if you’re aiming to shed a few pounds and you’ve decided that walking is the way you’re going to do this, then there are 4 important factors that you need to consider...
1.  Get in to the habit.

Walking to lose weight is the same as any other type of exercise -

YOU NEED TO DO IT REGULARLY... Once or twice a week isn’t enough.
You should aim to do some type of walking at least once a day. Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting that you should walk for an hour each time, there are far more efficient ways of walking for weight loss than this.
2.  Build up gradually
Yes you need to walk often, this is true. But you should still build up gently if you aren’t used to exercise.
It’s a good idea to do some walking every day, even if it's just shorter distances to begin with.
3.  Don’t just meander along and take in the views on every walk you do.
Mix things up, push yourself out of your comfort zone. Try some longer slower walks where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings by all means, but you also need to do some shorter more intense walks where you use power walking techniques, to boost fat loss.
4.  Make some small adjustments to your diet.
Let’s be very clear on one thing, whichever activity you choose to help you to shed the pounds, it’s absolutely vital that you reduce the amount of calories you eat each day, or at least improve the quality of those calories.
If you just start walking but don’t adjust your diet, you really won’t see much of a difference in the scales. Yes you’ll make progress slowly, but the real KEY to losing weight is to attack it from two directions...
  • Firstly you need to burn off more calories through exercise or becoming more active and...
  • Secondly, you need to reduce the amount of calories that you eat.
Doing this ensures that you’ll lose weight at the fastest rate possible.
If you’re thinking of using walking to lose weight, then my advice is ‘go for it.’
It’s a fantastic low impact type of exercise which is fun, sociable and IF DONE CORRECTLY, an extremely effective way of losing weight.
